Surely, I’m not the most qualified person on FT to explain anything about airline scheduling, but my experience lately has been AA offers lots of connections that are just a few minutes above the minimum legal time. Meaning if your incoming flight is on time and you go straight to the next gate you’ll make it but there’s no time for delays or lounge visits (or schedule changes).
Most recently, I had the choice between a 60-minute connection in MIA or a 50-minute connection in CLT. Those both involved taking the first flight of the day out of my originating city so if I didn’t like those options the only other choice was to overnight.
Thanks. One issue I'm noting is that apparently AA is sending out their Caribbean and Latin American flights pretty early in the morning from DFW, making it tough for me to get there on time (connection from my home airport). It seems better as we approach summer, but one massive limitation of my current routing (coming from ABQ) is that there are no direct flights to MIA, so either I only have what DFW offers, or have to go through 2 stops. A direct flight to MIA would alleviate things, or AA not trying to send out their international flights at the crack of dawn.
