Find the flights you want and then send a DM via Twitter to AA with your PNR and explain that the flights you were automatically re-booked on do not work for you. Provide them with the flights you'd like. If they are the same day, there should be no push back and you'll have an updated reservation in an hour or two. :-)
Very helpful - thank you so much. Interesting that they can make changes to an account via twitter with just a PNR. Seems a bit insecure, but I'll take it.
