I've squeezed out all the value I can expect for the $200 FHR credit. If I book something now and prepay before canceling, will I get the credit? Or do I need to hold the card through the hotel stay. I've already gotten my Saks and Southwest credits for 2022.
You'll be fine to book an FHR stay now, before canceling your Vanilla Plat. The only issue you'll have is if you book the stay, get the credit, cancel the card, and then need to make changes to the reservation. Potentially, you'll lose the credit if you need to cancel and rebook.
When you check in at the hotel, you should have no trouble showing them any Amex card, including the Schwab Plat.
I currently have the Schwab and MS Platinums and plan to cancel my Schwab in August, 2022. I already booked an FHR stay using that card and received my $200.00 credit. Good Luck.
