I thought that it was well justified for the Athenee, but I believed the brand suited well the Chiang Mai property, although the brand image was poorly handled in the past few years.
The present GM was managing a Marriott in Bangkok during his previous assignment and might have been selected in part because of his knowledge of the brand.
The property will go through a major renovation for that change.
The ownership will also soon open a Melia in the area, as well as an InterContinental.
Quite sad to me. Do you have any timeframe about this hotel becoming a (plain and bland) Marriott?
This LM and W HK are the first 2 hotels in SPG folio i experienced and that made me chasing a Lifetime status with SPG.
