I used a M life rate booked direct with MGM. I did not have to physically present my ID in person and was able to go straight to the room bypassing the FD - the app had an option to scan my ID and face to validate my ID. I did go down to the FD in person the next morning to add my WoH number. Both WoH credit and Mlife Tier Credit posted automatically after my stay.
Seems you've had poor luck with those FD agents but your concierge should be able to correct if you're missing the WoH side and the nights weren't comp'd based on previous DPs. I have limited exposure to the M life program, but IME most of the benefits at the Gold level are accessed via bookings on your M life account or just by having your physical card. You probably know this already, but you can't expect WoH benefits at a MGM property, only WoH credit.
I wonder if the status matching will change with the new MGM Rewards program. Perhaps Explorists won't be matched to Gold anymore.
