The person in the window seat is in charge of the window shade right? So if you're having issues with direct sunlight, which may become an issue on the other side of the cabin too depending on time of day, select sunny side and keep shade closed.
I rarely fly without Ms. VRFast so swapping seats are not an option for us, unless someone chose the middle seat between us in E+ (oops-different topic on here), and we'll be accommodating as long as the seats are the same, E+ for E+, within a row or two of chosen seat. Big thing is getting to your carry-on in the overhead bin, assuming no overhead swaps taking place, without swimming upstream to find it, I'm not a salmon.
Saying no to seat swaps, in a polite way, is never wrong. People pick certain seats for a reason, IMHO.
