when I got on, someone was already in my seat (10d). He got his rows confused so as he was checking his boarding pass, the guy in 9e repeatedly insisted I sit in 9d. Why? Because I’m of smaller frame than the guy he’s supposed to sit next to. This flight is under one hour and the guy wasn’t even big. But because I look young and female, 9e thought he could just dictate who should sit where when he had nothing to do with what’s going on.
I think this sort of thing is a demonstration of how pernicious the whole topic is. 99.999999% of the time, everyone should sit in their assigned seats.
