Are you covered by Chase trip protection if you use PayPal and use the respective Chase card as the payment method?

I read somewhere that no, but upon calling Chase benefits I was assured that if I used my Chase card for the trip payment and the money was taken from the credit card, I was 100% covered. Thoughts?
