Wanted to share my experience as I completed travel with a certificate of recovery. It was an uphill battle during check-in because the folks at kiosks are trained to watch out for negative PCR tests. But according to CDC, for a recovered covid patient you need a positive PCR test + doctor's certificate. The checkin agents threw a fit when they saw the positive test and their initial response was "NO - you can't travel. Are you kidding me!". Fortunately I had carried printouts of CDC regulations from Qatar's own website. The agents called in their manager, who then verified it further with another call to his manager. All this while I am waiting not knowing whether I can travel. But thankfully, they finally said yes.

But I also heard more and more people are showing up to checkin with these cases - it is inevitable as there are lots of people who are stuck with Omicron and CDC clearly states you can continue to test positive for months even after you have recovered. A certificate of recovery is the only way to travel.

So here is my advice: Keep all the paperwork with you - especially the earliest PCR positive report. Get a doctor to clear you. As long as you have met all isolation guidelines and you are symptom free and fully recovered (the doc will make the assessment), the doc will issue you the certificate. It needs to be in his letterpad and should have patient details (name, DOB,passport #). Make sure it is ~ 10 days since the positive PCR report before you travel. Carry all supporting paperwork from CDC/Qatar website to the checkin desk. And expect confusion during checkin. But if you are flying to US with a certificate of recovery, yes - that can be done and is probably becoming increasingly common.
