Agree there have been some good hotel bargains lately on points/certs. My favorites recently have been the Marriott Fuji Yamanako and Marriott Izu Shuzenji for 35k/night (cert). IHG points rates have been all over the place, but I've been lucky enough to get the Kimpton Shinjuku for 40k (cert) and IC Tokyo Bay for 30k. I've seen IC Yokohama as low as 29k, but haven't stayed there recently.

We were aiming at Izu but it was booked for the dates we had.

Tokyo area has a bunch of IC, so you are right there are some other options, dates depending. Yokohama IC is also in range usually, as you said, but was not for our NY's eve date. The IC pier 8 seems to be always high.
