On 338, not long before the the landing gear came down, a strange smell (similar to when de-icer accidentally gets into the intake vents, but not exactly) wafted through the cabin from back to front. Before they took their seats for landing, the flight attendants were talking about it and didn’t know what had caused it. I was in row 1, and they said the smell was much worse in the back. I didn’t think much of it. We landed, taxied to the gate and deplaned.
About 20 minutes later, I had a very sudden, very bad headache and started sweating profusely. I sat for a few minutes, then decided to walk a bit and see if it got better. I walked past the gate where the flight had arrived and noticed a fire truck out by the plane, and there were paramedics and police at the gate. The paramedics were checking the flight attendants. Two of them seemed to be ok, but another was being attended to on a gurney.
I walked back down the terminal and got some lunch (I was feeling a little better by this point). When I went back past the gate to go to my connection, I noticed the plane was still there and the next leg for that plane (AS 56 to PDX) had been canceled.
By the time boarding started for my AUS flight I was feeling ok.
A little scary in retrospect, and I wonder if other passengers were affected. I hope the FAs are ok.
next time….
report this. There are safety laws in place protecting PAX when flying.
