I also have the Austrian app installed and found that when I pulled up the ticketed reservation in the app, it allowed me to add my UA MP number there. Anyway, I found both OS and LH to be quirky at accepting UA MP # for tickets I've booked, so good luck.

I'm having the same problem with a LH booking, where the MP number is not recognized. I was advised here that I would be able to add it at check-in, but I couldn't get it to work during online check-in. I'll have to try at the airport. It really shouldn't be this difficult. Of course LH has 2+ hours of waiting time to speak to a live person.
