No, I don't think you were well informed at the time. It would indeed seem that Hilton did inform us of the new options for earning BA Miles. I received an e-mail on 21st June 2004, but it did not point out that my mileage earnings basis would be changed by default to one of the two new earnings bases. Here is the most of the e-mail (partially quoted above):
