I found some flights that were slightly more expensive than the ones I paid.. Same location (Larnaca). I've attached the flight details.

I paid £1319 for the originals & £1399 is the cost of the new ones.

I phoned trying to book and the agent wanted to charge me £129 pounds extra per ticket. This is the information he gave explaining the price difference:

1\ The return leg on the original flight was a fare type of Light & that the new return leg was Classic - so the rebooking is subject to an upgrade fee.
2\ The agent said he could give me no cheaper options.
3\ The agent wasn't sure that if I found a flight with compatible fare types - it would not necessarily make any difference
4\ The agent said it was not possible to send me the workings out - or explain the t&cs for calculating prices between fare types as the pricing is confidential
5\ The agent said rebooked fares are not prioritised so you can't get the same price as the one online.

This is deeply troubling... If you try to rebook a flight then the agents can just come up with any number based on what is showing up on their system and they do not have to send any proof in writing explaining how the fare is calculated etc..

I will try a few more times and see if the same thing happens. I am on the verge of making a formal complaint on this.

Please note that I paid a premium for very good cancellation cover on my insurance. However the insurance company want Lufthansa to provide evidence in writing of what they are going to offer me. Lufthansa so far refuse to send me anything in writing. :-(
