Last year July I booked 2 tickets for an HNL-CDG flight for March 2022 for $3,300 through the Chase travel portal. I paid entirely in cash, no points, using my Chase Freedom Unlimited. At the time only the CFU and CFF cards had the 5% back if you booked travel through the Chase travel portal, it wasn't added to the CSP/CSR until August. In November, United made two separate minor modifications to my flight, but neither change was greater than 2 hours to get the refund. Still, the changes made me a bit wary if I should continue the trip, so I started looking for ways to get a refund. Unfortunately, every Chase Rep I called told me I'll only get a one time use travel credit which sucks since I wanted an actual refund to my card. I found it pretty hard to get a refund so I just decided to go with it, but starting in late December news of the Omicron surge made me really worried and luckily enough United made a change to my flight today and it was greater than 2 hours. When I opened the United app it said at the top "This flight is eligible for a free open time change or a refund", so I chose to take the refund. I requested the refund directly on united.com as I didn't wanna deal with Chase reps anymore, but United's website did state the refund would go back to my CFU card ending in -XXXX. I got a cancellation confirmation email from United saying to expect my refund to be processed within 7 business days. Shortly after I also got an email from Chase Travel that my itinerary was changed/cancelled. I wanted to ask if this is a done deal? Can I now rest well knowing my flight is cancelled and I'll get my card refunded soon, or is United gonna refund me through Chase Travel/Expedia and I'll have to pursue them now to refund my card?
