It doesn't matter who pays for the tickets. IF the person is on a family account (i.e. same mailing address, not necessarily same last name, as you) you can start a family account (i think you can only have 4, but I recall reading somewhere they upped it, but not positive) and mix & match miles. my parents are going to london/italy right now and they used miles from their accounts & mine & my sisters account for the awared travel.
