EDIT: Wanted to give an update on this situation. I ended up just letting the issue rest and within about 3 weeks on the initial cancellation, the points were refunded.
I am in a similar situation. I booked a flight on United on Nov and on December 20th it got cancelled but I have to request refund manually. I requested thru chase and united approved it on the 23rd of December as of the 5th still no refund of UR points, so you are saying just wait a few weeks and eventually an email will come back saying UR points will be refunded? We didn't have to do anything
