My goal for 2021 was to travel once my wife and I got vaccinated. We weren't initially planning on just flying the minimum required but ended up basically doing so due to Covid concerns. Requalified via the fall promotion, all flying was leisure. We would have gone for pure PQD requalification if that promotion didn't occur as there was no way we were going to get the needed PQS. Did everything in paid 1st other than two CRJ-200 flights between DEN-SGU. Normally domestically we rarely buy 1st but did so now due to Covid concerns.
We ended up doing our first trip since the pandemic in April, flew to EGE instead of DEN as we were concerned about the Avis rental car bus and the terminal train at DEN. I ended up tearing my ACL while skiing on the last run of the last day of the trip. Got to experience wheelchair service for the first time. Had at trip to SGU via DEN that was already booked and decided to do it even though I had my injury. My wife trips in the UC on someone's foot and she gets a wheelchair too! Airport and lounge management were present while the paramedic looked at my wife's foot, ultimately they had to rig up a ice pack using a rubber glove from the UC, absolutely hilarious and quite functional!
Skipped traveling during the summer due my injury and also worries about Covid and the number of people traveling.
Didn't fly again until October, went to HNL as we felt safe with vaccination required to enter restaurants and traditionally this timeframe is what qualifies as an off season there. Flying felt more normal other than the masks. Did one last trip in November to Yellowstone & Grand Teton that was booked well in advance of the fall promotion. We actually did a change to first class on DEN-IDA due to an equipment change to the E175 (from I guess a CRJ-200), it ended up being cheaper but still just enough to requalify with the promo without needing to upfare. Ended up with 3115 PQD for the fall promotion so pretty close to the minimum.
So, 16 PQS, 11514 PQD. Got 400 PQD from the corporate bonus and 2250 from the Welcome Back Bonus earlier in the year so true spend was only 8864 (resulting in 42cpm based on actual spend). This was by far the least amount I've traveled in the last 10 years. In 2020, we did more flying in the 2.5 months before the pandemic really changed things in the US than we did in all of 2021.
