I assume you only earn base mileage, which is fine. How about upgrades, though? Are you even eligible? Can just your 'real' seat get the upgrade, and if you do, are you fine to cancel the comfort seat?
Redeemable miles only for comfort seats, no elite miles unfortunately. Per the BOGO thread, RDM bonuses apply, which should be for class of service if applicable.

Also in the BOGO thread, Reservations is saying you can book the comfort sear yourself despite the written policy that you must call in. In which case, it should be just like any other companion upgrade: same reservation with only the extra seat and no others, must be Gold or higher generally, and must have U=2. You should be able to split/cancel the comfort seat just like a non-status companion could, but when U=1, you're at risk of the upgrade processor or agent skipping you.
