Thank you everyone, in the end we used the new tickets. It was not an option to stay the night at ARN (traveling with a child and flights purchased as separate flights through Expedia, because SAS did not offer them as combination). TFS will have testing services starting January 4th, and TFN seems to have just stoped the service completely. A lot of bad luck with the New Year's weekend (all closed) and the airports not having ensure continuity for their labs. We will talk to SAS and Expedia but likely we just lost 800 Euros...
Separate tickets normally don't qualify as a transit. The carrier denies boarding if you don't have documentation for entry into the country of the destination for the first ticket.
I don't think it would have mattered, but Expedia shouldn't sell such tickets, at least not without explicitly warning potential customers of the risks associated with such ticketing practices.
BTW, just because there's no through fare offered doesn't mean that segments associated with different fare components or fares cannot be put together on the same ticket/PNR so that you're protected during IROPs, can check through luggage, etc. Sometimes it's easier to request this with a real live human competent travel agent versus purchasing tickets online, although Expedia is one or the better and more reputable OLTAs.
