I began the year with a trip to Tampa from Newark - which gave me 300 bonus PQP in addition to the base 98 PQP. It also gave me the confidence to keep doing domestic travel. I accumulated 975 bonus PQP in total from that Q1 promotion in addition to the starting deposit of 3750. As soon as the EU opened up I went to France, plus a few trips coast to coast in the US (daughter's best friend moved to LA just before COIVD). I was mostly buying first where possible - P fares JFK-LAX could be had for about 528 and the TATL fares were good with easy upgrades with PP. As soon as the UK opened up I headed home.
I spent on average about 15cpm because of buying first (around 20cpm on first, maybe 6-7 cpm in economy). If you are stuck in an apartment in the city working from home any opportunity to get out was great. UA were consistently on time and the worst part of the experience was just how bad the United Club became at Newark but at least LGA is open now. My best memory of travel for the year was not on UA though - it was a return to Alaska with Delta for 12,000 skypesos! I dropped a few more miles to get first on the long segments (under the DL promotion this was very lucrative for status and meant I made Gold for the first time on DL). Of course once booked I realized there were no rental cars to be had for love nor money so I got to experience the Alaska Railroad.
Ended the year with a 1K qualification following 1 business trip to Europe (very glad I moved quickly and did that before Omicron hit). 21k PQP of which 11,125 were some sort of promotion. Good times - best wishes to all for a successful and memorable 2022 of travel
