When you sit in an exit row, which I often do, they always tell you exactly what to do with the door/window.
I've sat in exits rows 50+ times and have never had anyone tell me specifically what to do with the door. The instructions are usually very vague.... something like, "we need you to assist in an emergency". Wonder if it's airline specific? I mainly fly Alaska but sometimes Delta or Southwest.
