I am looking at booking a trip for 2022 on a widebody with instant upgrade to J on points. My options are booking Premium Economy (Flexible) or Economy (Latitude), both with ability to auto upgrade. Booking the Economy ticket would be far less points to use albeit more eUpgrades than PE (4 vs 2), but the one thing I was wondering was whether there was any benefit to booking the PE fare in terms of protecting against potential downgrade from J due to unforseen circumstance? It would at least protect the PE seats for the trip if that happened was my thought but is that a real risk? Could save a lot by going Economy Latitude here...
