I probably would have been fine with it had I been asked but I did not appreciate the manner in which it was forced upon me. I asked an AA agent on a subsequent flight if this were common and was told they would never force someone to change seats unless it was a safety or medical issue. Furthermore, since this was a "saver" ticket my only option to change seats myself would have been to purchase a premium econ seat to the tune of ~$160.

If I have to pay to change seats, then why does AS not have to pay me to move me without asking?

Cheers

This happened to me earlier in the year. I was moved from my preferred window seat and assigned to a middle seat next a friend on same pnr. The agent thought she was doing me a favor. Worst seat on the plane with immovable armrests. I wrote to Alaska and they did investigate the event because they wrote back in detail what had occurred. Sent me $75.
