That being said, I've got another reservation at Roku in early-April and greatly looking forward to exploring that property. Re the marble... I initially thought the same, but after seeing it in person I actually think it works quite well. The bathhouse is all dark marble floors/baths/showers with light wooden walls, so the contrast is even more noticeable than the guestroom room bathrooms. To me, it creates a nice inviting luxurious balance in style.

Based on the ROKU Kyoto reviews I've read on Tripadvisor.com, there appear to be a good number of guests who eat at the restaurants or go there for afternoon tea but don't stay at the hotel, so that may be the problem you encountered. I'll have to hurry and make my restaurant reservations there soon. Does the PH Kyoto have an
onsen or just a
sento? There's an outside chance we might fit a couple of nights there into our schedule after our ROKU stay, so it would be good to know.
