Why is this a disgrace? The OP and familiy never fulfilled the requirements to enter India; that is not the fault of LH. And sometimes outstations like CDG or others fails to be updated on entry rules but that doesn't change the fact that it is entirely the responsibility of pax to fully comply with all travel requirements.
Governments hold the airlines responsible & fine them if they get it wrong.
CDG were responsible to check the pax were ok to travel that routing & clearly failed. Airline employees are professionals, the pax not.
Least LH could have done under the circumstances was return the pax to CDG.
