We finally arrived home after an 18-hour drive. Normally it would be about 3.5 hours but we chose to drive around the lake to US50 as I-80 was closed with no estimate for re-opening (it finally opened Tuesday around 9pm). Traffic was literally gridlocked from 10 miles out of Stateline all the way to the chain control at Meyers. After that it was about 5 hours to get over echo summit and back into the bay area (about normal given road conditions). The roads are still clogged both directions with thousands (like us) trying to get home since Christmas and thousands of others coming up to ski and celebrate New Years. One guy drove to Reno, then to Vegas, then back to SF in 15 hours, so I guess that was the quicker route. Can't say I will be visiting again if any major storms are in the forecast!
17 hours back to SF here! We must have been (in) the same traffic. Glad you got home safe.
