Hello, I had just booked a flight to Langkawi with my in-laws and I understand how important it is for families to sit together. I hope the information below on using my BA Executive Club Gold (OneWorld Emerald) status to select seats on MH Lite fares in economy will be helpful to future travellers, especially since Langkawi is now open to international tourists (since 15 Nov) with no quarantine requirement:

1. I had booked our flights through Amex Travel. Although I had provided Amex with our BAEC membership numbers, it was tagged as MH numbers in the malaysiaairlines' website (under Manage my booking). So I called the MH Platinum number at +603 - 2634 1888 and was connected to someone within 5 minutes (it was a weekday around 6pm). She corrected them to BAEC numbers and also input my in-laws MH Enrich membership numbers which were all reflected in my booking immediately after my call ended.

2. Next, I went to malaysiaairlines' website and keyed in my airline reference number under Manage (you do not need to log in and therefore you do not need a MH account to do this) then click "select services". Seat selection is now marked as "free of charge". Note that the agent at the call centre who helped me amend the numbers had told me that I'm not allowed to select seats on Lite fares. So don't bank on your agent doing this step for you, just go online and DIY!

3. We were not allowed to select front-row seats (row 5) so we settled for middle row seats but at least we will be sitting together. Exit row seats were chargeable for adult OWE and rightfully blocked for the children, who also had OWE status.
