Stayed for two nights over the Christmas weekend (followed by a night at the new Intercontinental).
- Hotel was extremely busy, as is usual in Taiwan during holidays / weekends since the pandemic started.
- No room upgrade at all (Titanium member), on account of the full bookings. Actually I also used a Suite Night Award certificate, but was rejected.
- Initially got a room on the west side, which directly faces the adjoining tower that is still under construction -- so we got a whole window of steel bars and machinery. Was rather annoyed at this even more than the lack of upgrade. Immediately went back to the lounge to complain, and got changed to a room on the much nicer east side.
- Happy hour on Friday night was busy but manageable with a short wait. Saturday night, on the other hand, was a disaster. Long wait at the lounge, and the staff did not keep a waitlist for tables or offer takeout (which they do at the Taipei Marriott and others). They did open up an extra space at the buffet restaurant just for happy hour, but it definitely felt like the overflow room. We ended up eating at the food court in the connecting shopping mall.
- Was worried that the Sunday morning breakfast would be a similar disaster, but they offered the full buffet restaurant as a breakfast option, in addition to the lounge breakfast. As a result, there were enough tables to go around and we could eat at either one without a wait.
