1. Why don't you wait until the charge
posts before continuing to act like they have charged you. Companies preauthorize charges all the time without posting charges. Surely you know this. Wait until Thursday and see what your Amex looks like.
2. No, failure to pick up a normal reservation with National does not, AFAIK, carry a penalty. (I say "normal" because there are those specialty cars, etc., that have credit card guarantee language, and I don't know what happens for no-showing those.)
3. Why would a reservation that never happened show up in your past rentals?
