Both passengers need to travel together unfortunately, to fly back on different flights would not be possible. Both passengers could stay for an additional week assuming award availability at the later date.
I guess your companion could fly back on the original date and you "no show" at the last moment but you would be looking at buying another ticket to come home of course.
