We stayed here Dec 21-23 (2 nights). Booked as an Explorist a while back when they were taking reservations but hadn't yet changed the name to Hyatt Grand Central. Got a room for $200/night plus 9K points for a premium suite upgrade (1 BR, city view). By the time of our stay, my wife was Globalist. I'm not sure if we got a further upgrade, but the suite was quite large, with a living area, dining area, 1/2 bath in the living area, and a separate bedroom with a full bath. Our kids slept on the sofa and a rollaway in the living area. The place was worn, but it worked for us.
We checked in on a Tue at 9 pm, and were first in line for check-in. There were two agents working and both were busy with other guests. It took a while, but eventually it was our turn. Not too bad of a wait, but if the line is longer (like it was the next day in the afternoon) it would have been a long wait.
When we checked in we were told our Globalist breakfast benefit at the Market was $57 per person (there were 4 of us). Plus $15 per day, per room for afternoon purchases. I double checked with the check in agent that it was $57 per person as that seemed very high, but he confirmed it. They also waived the rollaway fee and the "destination" fee. We filled our basket each morning with whatever we wanted, and a little extra, but couldn't come close to the $228 we believed we were entitled to every morning.
Of course at checkout they didn't waive any of the marketplace fees and we had to remind the checkout agent that we were Globalist and entitled to the breakfast benefit & $15/day benefit. They then said it was only $57 per room, not per person, per day. We protested and had to talk to the manager. We explained what happened and he then waived all the Marketplace charges.
Overall we were pleased with our stay. I had low expectations given the low staffing and the fact that this is just a temporary re-opening. We got a lot of space for the 4 of us at a decent price. We were leaving on a train from GC our our check-out date, so that made the location very convenient. It did take some time, and 2 calls to the front desk, to get our rollaway delivered, so I'm glad we didn't need to call for anything else, such as a maintenance issue or similar.
