I got a double bump from NW in September 2003, from LGA to DTW. After a weekend in NYC the Sunday night flight home to DTW was full. I got $300 and the night in a hotel. Next morning I get to the gate and they are asking for volunteers again. Another $300. The twist was that all flight to DTW that day were overbooked, and they rerouted me thru MSP. Extra miles? Sure.

When I got to MSP, I asked the GA to put me on a later flight to DTW so I could spend a couple of hours at the Mall of America. She exact words were "Later? No one ever wants to go later!"
