Not correct. AA EXPs and Platinum Pros get unlimited free one-cabin domestic upgrades, subject to seat availability. On a three-class aircraft, that would be an upgrade from Main Cabin to Business; on a two-cabin aircraft, that would be an upgrade from Main Cabin to First Class. EXPs get free upgrades on domestic award tickets, too. But there is a pecking order to getting upgraded, and I expect that MIA is an elite-heavy station for AA.
