We’re still deep in a pandemic with no end in sight - hotel rates are high, car rental rates are high, airline rates are high.
Why are they high?
Because they’ve fully extended status, had great promos and the rewards make it decent to book.
But the rewards from Hyatt, the Hyatt-wide promos, in Q2, Q3, Q4 (21’) and Q1 (22’) have been lackluster to say the least. Without a status extension, double EQN Hyatt-wide (in 22’), or a reduction in the nights needed to retain status it’s just not matching up, especially not in comparison to any other travel based brand.
Here’a a few example of rate comparisons for the same dates -
Dallas -
21’ Rate - $106
20’ Rate - $60
19’ Rate - $72
San Diego -
21’ Rate - $192
20’ Rate - $106
19’ Rate - $132
Park City -
21’ Rate - $228
20’ Rate - $120
19’ Rate - $168
Santa Barbara
21’ Rate - $480
20’ Rate - $189
19’ Rate - $223
Those are massive increases without any easing in, just shooting up. It’d be nice to be eased into these major shifts with things like 3x points and complimentary parking promos. I understand these hotels are trying to recoup losses but business travel is massively down, most sectors are not back to fully functional, and until things are fully functional I see no reason Hyatt shouldn’t follow suit of other travel based companies.
