The final straw for me was in October. My wife and I were going to MSY, I opened the app and an Uber was available in 18 minutes. That was perfect because I had a couple of last minute things to do, so I accepted that Uber. Five minutes later, the ride showed up. I went out and told the guy that I would be out in a few minutes. He said, no problem. When I got in the car, I mentioned that I was surprised that he came so quickly because the app said he would be 18 minutes. After the ride, I checked my bill and saw that I was charged a “wait” charge. It wasn’t a significant amount of money, so I didn’t dispute it with Uber. I just didn’t feel like investing any time in dealing with that.

Now, I call a cab company hours before and make a reservation. And, if they’re early or I’m a little bit late, I don’t get charged a “wait” fee. With the taxi, you know exactly what you’re going to pay - no extra fees or surcharges.
