The current consensus seems to be to look into credit card options (yes, ticket was purchased on my CC). Initially I was thinking of exhausting the AC route before seeking CC options, as I felt AC should be first to clarify their stance on the issue, but I'll contact my CC company tomorrow and see where they stand.
thanks,

Thanks for your reply, I confirm it was stressful, not only the four hours in YVR limbo trying to figure out what was going on, and what I had to do, but my destination was changing their entry policies on an almost daily basis due to Omicron, and a days delay might actually make it so I could not enter, but the kicker was, when i finally exited NRT after 8 hours of COVID related processing, someone had taken my main suitcase by mistake (got it back the next day), and I also injured my foot on a NRT luggage cart after it decided my toe was worthy of its attention. After all that, going into three days of quarantine in a hotel room the size of a shoebox was actually a relief; what could go wrong in such an enclosed space.....? I'm now moved into home quarantine with a few more days to go. Longest trip in my life: Departed Dec 7, scheduled to exit quarantine Dec 24 (14 day quarantine).
Whats not so funny is I went out of my way to purchase AC for this trip so I could avoid third country transits, and keep things within one airline, with an aim to make things as simple as possible given the global situation....
thanks,
