Hey
futuramadramallama
Sorry for the month late response, just saw this.
So i'm not really sure I actually ended up having to cancel that flight I booked as literally 24 hours before the flight they cancelled the flight (was pretty common in the covid era last year) and they tried to reroute me with a 30 hour layover in the wrong direction so I called AA and they gave me the points back.
I ended up booking a last minute flight with Azul through United points which may provide some clue. The agent there said there was no baggage information attached, but I showed them the United policy that the award ticket should have a bag. I'm not entirely sure how the system works, someone perhaps with more experience can comment, but I don't think that award tickets especially from partners always aligned to a specific booking code on the airline, hence why some of the fare information like whether seat selection or free bags are included or not. I've dealt with this quite a bit when booking partner awards in economy and then you get to the desk and the agent is scratching their head trying to figure out whats included or not.
