Lufthansa price hikes phone vs online when rebooking flight
Hi,
In late October we were booked to fly from Heathrow via Larnaca - cost of flight for 4 passengers was just over £1300. Unfortunately my son and I caught Covid a couple of days before we were due to fly out. When I spoke to Lufthansa they told me the flights were rebookable - that I had until 15th January to do so.
I found some flight recently for 4 passengers in October next year that go to same destination - Larnaca. Online these flights are quite a bit cheaper than the ones I paid for - only £1100.
However when I phoned Lufthansa - they said as well as the booking fee £30 per passenger - I had to pay an extra £100 per ticket because the online price wasn't available - I had to pay the 'booking system' price. However they were not able to confirm to me what this 'system price' was - as apparently only they can see it.
I tried calling Lufthansa again today - this time they said that the same flight was £150 per ticket extra - again because it was a 'rebooked' fare - I wasn't able to get the online price.
So this means that as well I have to pay another £600 on top of the £1300 already paid - to pay for flights that are £1100. What worries me far more is that there is no transparency on these price calculations. If I phone Lufthansa tomorrow they could tell me I now need to pay £1000 more because the system price has gone up again.
Lufthansa told me that to get a more affordable re-booking price I'd need to find a flight that was the same price as the one I was due to take at the end of October. I asked how this was possible when I can only see the online prices and they said it wasn't possible??
This is really worrying.. I can totally understand airlines need to recover their costs and I am happy to pay extra for the rebooking - but I don't want to pay extra money for the flights when there is no way to see what the flight price should be & how they are doing there calculations.
Any advice on what to do would be much appreciated.
