Thanks for the review. I have a 1-night stay booked here for early 2022. Had to decide between this property and the Marriott in Yamanako but chose this one. Since you've stayed at both, what's your take on the two, do you have a preference? I notice that the Izu property has a club lounge but apparently, the Yamanako one does not. Which hotel's onsen do you prefer?
Without a doubt, I prefer the Izu property. It's larger, has a better public onsen facility, and definitely has more of a resort feel (in a good way). The Yamanako property feels like a regular Marriott just plopped in the woods (albeit, with fantastic access to Lake Yamanaka) I also prefer Izu's proper club lounge and in-room onsen setup with outdoor/balcony bath/view (if you're lucky enough to be upgraded there - I'm currently 3/3 on onsen room upgrades). I've found the service and Bonvoy recogninition at both properties to be equally excellent. Also, on a personal note, if you're into beer, Baird Brewing Shuzenji (one of my favorite Japanese breweries) is a 45 min downhill walk (or free hotel shuttle ride and 5 min walk) from the Izu Marriott Shuzenji.
