AS ff on AA have some upgrade options. AA-AS relationship is few steps more than just OW alliance partner.
As far as sear selection goes a OWS & OWE benefit is "preferred seating". Each airline has a different definition that I have never seen published.
AA changed its definition to remove MCE for OW alliance S & E status. Then a few weeks later bough it back for BA ff only.
