I spend my last 4 euros of Comoran francs on soda, which for some reason hasn't been overpriced at the airport and I end up with 2 cans of Comoran fruit soda/juice and 2 bottles of water.
Wow, that must be a world first!! I find that airport shops are rip off artists.
But that luggage at check in - seen that in so many places. It is obviously an African Trader trait. Did a flight from China to NBO then JNB on KQ. KQ actually sent somebody from Nairobi to try and sort that mess out. Apparently, when the payload limit is reached, they close the Check In facilities, and KQ's attitude was basically, "come back tomorrow and we will see".
