This is why you will never receive any points, unless you contact the hotel and have them reissue your folios.

You do not have any charges under your name. Full stop. So no points... The fact that the hotel tried to be helpful might be disingenuous, but itīs up to you to say "no, Iīd like to pay off my bill personally". I have no doubt that many FTers have had to do this multiple times...

Your wife will not receive any points for two reasons. One... she didnīt pay. And two... because itīs an obvious scam for a non-elite guest to pass their charges onto the folio of an elite guest who would earn a bonus on top. It doesnīt have to be intentional, but itīs what Bonvoy would assume.
