In addition to Bonvoy, it's a common rule that hotel program credit requires one to STAY AND PAY. SPG had this rule, as does Hyatt (both HGP and WOH). It doesn't matter if the person who pays is a spouse or family member: YOU stay and YOU (exactly the same person) pay.
