It usually cruises at FL140/14,000ft hence the turbulence. However, staying at this altitude means it can take advantage of a little known 'on request' shortcut to route the wrong way down a one-way airway from Koksijde across the Channel towards Lydd and into Gatwick. All of this means that the flight is
a) Less likely to be delayed as it doesn't have to enter the busy Clacton sector and
b) About 5-10 minutes shorter so I'm told.
Anything that means you have to spend less time in a 146 is probably worth putting up with turbulence for!!!
