Another interesting anecdote from this particular trip is a CPH-GVA trip I have to take, on the SAS website I was quote US$1400 r/t but on Expedia I got same flights for $182!

CO did not try to sell you anything that you did not ask for. The rules of the codeshare is for connecting flts only. This is a stop over. Hence, a new fare that was priced as an unrestricted full fare economy tkt. The fare that you got at Maersk's website is a web fare. Just like the recording says for all of the legacy carriers - "check our website for lower fares".
