It is usually quite simple for the hotel to keep you in the same room. They just check you out in the morning and check your husband into the same room.

The only proviso is that both room types are the same. Some people book a suite for one night and a standard room for extra nights and hope to stay in the suite...

I also recommend that you pay for your room that first morning when you "check out and check back in". Some hotels are happy enough to move the charges from one folio to another, which causes problems for points / elite credit, as well as when an employer is picking up the tab for part of the stay.
