Cannot update our API details for flight

I have booked a BA flight for my husband any myself from MXP—-LHR—-SFO for March, using AS miles instead of Avios (saving them for another trip). The names and passport details were correctly transferred from my AS profile, but other information was still needed—-specifically the contact information required of US-bound travelers (presumably for covid tracing). I filled in the address where we will be staying the night of arrival, our contact information, and to the questions regarding whether each of us held a Green Card (US permanent residency permit) or a visa (or ESTA), I answered “neither” because as US citizens we do not need either one.

The form would not accept the submission, saying “We have found some problems with the details you provided” in red, with a large red exclamation point, followed by “Error during add or update contact details” in smaller black print. No specific problem was indicated by red or other markings on the form. I suspect the lack of Green Card or Visa, but our passport and residency details show that neither is necessary.

I have tried several times over 2 days. At the same time, I provided the exact same information on another flight (booked months ago) from LHR to SFO, also for next spring. This is an Avios booking in Club World. There was no red flag or error message for these—-everything was acceptable.

So is the difference the point of origin for the flights (Italy vs. UK?). Or the fact that one was booked with AS miles and the other with Avios? Or perhaps because I was not logged in to my BAEC account when I tried to add the details on the MXP-LHR-SFO booking?

I am concerned because we will not be able to do online check-in for the MXP—LHR—SFO flight (and perhaps will not be able to upload our required covid documents) if I cannot get this resolved. I tried calling but gave up because they are so busy right now, and asking people not to call unless their flight is within 10 days.
