KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is celebrating 70 years of continuous flights between Amsterdam and the Philippines

I have over a hundred Filipino and Filipina colleagues who fly between AMS and MNL several times a year. KLM is anything but their preferred carrier, but back in the days when they still offered direct flights KLM was at least the fastest option. They added a TPE stop when the Philippine government started levying onerous taxes on longhaul flights.

In these Covid days, traveling to and from the Philippines has become a real hassle. There are plenty of ways of getting there, but tickets can be surprisingly hard to get, especially at very short notice. Sometimes J is the only option, much to the glee of the fortunate colleagues concerned.

Now that the Philippines has placed the Netherlands on its Red List, AMS-MNL is simply no longer an option. The other way is still fine, though.
