This all seems rather dramatic! You can take a UK purchased kit (Chronomics etc) to your vacation, test yourself regularly and use this test to get yourself home. No one needs to know anything you are up to !
I don’t remember having to provide evidence of the date/time I took the test with Chronomics. So you could even do the test as soon as you arrive, take a photo of the result and relevant codes and then register the kit and upload the result the day before departure. Do a free NHS test before using the Chronomics one to ensure it’ll come back negative.
The self-righteous won’t like it, but stupid rules always have simple solutions.
